Wings Of The Morning

It's not a secret that I can't imagine life without music, and that Caedmon's Call is my favorite band of all time. Listen to the above song 'Mystery Of Mercy' if you need to be punched with the beauty of God's agape love for us stumbling sinners. Or ... Okay, no more recommendations for now, though trust me that I could go on.

So I was listening to the song 'Wings Of The Morning' from the 'Share The Well' CD recently, for the 100th time. The lyrics were written in response to the Dalit in India, the lower caste that has been looked down on for generations. The lyrics have always moved me, though this time I heard them and thought of girls in Ecuador and everywhere else who have been victims of that terrible crime: human trafficking.

I woke to the sirens of the city
They were calling me to hold my head up high
But the truth was in the dust that hangs like curtains
From the beggars to the sky

The ads and billboards rained in every language
The message every politician knows
When we're fed that we are nothing we'll believe it
And then do what we are told

The spark of the divine
I see it in your eyes
It's there behind the lies that tie you down

On the wings of the morning
Hope is rising
In the darkest night
Your love and light prevail

Ask any good detective, he will tell you
It's the eyes that always give the truth away
And in yours I see the fear that's bound and gagged you
With no hope for escape

It's true that we are fallen as an angel
But you and me, we're also holy as a prayer
Made in the image of a giver and a lover
Who left His throne to come down here

The spark of the divine
I see it in your eyes
It's there behind the lies that tie you down

On the wings of the morning
Hope is rising
In the darkest night
Your love and light prevail

We will rise, rise, on the wings of the morning
Though we hide, hide, in the shadows of the night
There is hope, hope in the hands that have made us
And are holding us tight

Hope is rising ... on the wings of the morning
Hope is rising ... in the shadows of the night
Hope is rising ... from the hands that have made us
And are holding us tight

Lies that tie people down. Fear that binds and gags with no hope of escape. Pray for ministries that seek to help the oppressed and free the slave. Human trafficking - modern-day slavery - is an issue which is exploding into the light of our world's consciousness. Awareness is a great first step, as long as it grows into real change. Pray for the oppressed. Find ways to stand up for those who can't, whether that means pushing to pass bills to protect victimized people in our own country, give to organizations who work to free people across the globe, or some other way of being God's hands and feet. It's such a huge problem that it's incredibly intimidating. Yet ... hope is rising. On the wings of the morning, seen in the spark of the divine, hope is rising.
