Beat Poetry

I see you  there with the broken smile
nervous eyes like you're standing trial
But the judge already set you free
and gave you back your dignity
But you can't seem to move, you freeze
shivering in the slightest breeze
As though the ruling might be revoked
a dying fire to be re-stoked
Afraid to run, terrified to stay
wishing that someone would push play
To start your life all over anew
you can click your heels until you're blue
But Oz or Kansas or anywhere here
is the real deal and you must adhere
To the rules of life and playing the game
to stay alive and try to tame
Demons and paper tigers galore
that prowl around, always wanting more
But wait! Our lives are more than this
recall a moment you tasted bliss
A happy child, or so in love
when everything shone like the sun above
So good and golden, true and right
when you thought life could equal light
Well maybe not now on this earth
but there is One who brings true worth
To every soul, each aching heart
a Savior who will not depart
A judge whose mercy rules the day
whose love can keep the night at bay
Who does redeem and make us new
and gives us heaven, it is true!
Eternal life to spend with God
so standing here on this earthly sod
I cannot see but I believe
that all our souls God can retrieve
To save and spend forever with Him
we're on the brink, we're on the rim
Of plunging in, that leap of faith
so that my life is not a wraith
But is everything that I can be
Say yes when He says, "Follow me."
