The Beach in Manuel Antonio

Two weekends ago, I got to go to a beach in Costa Rica: Manuel Antonio. It was so amazing. I went with five other girls from the school.  A guy at the school had told us that a place he and his family had stayed at in Manuel Antonio was having a special rate that weekend. So we went. We took a bus there after school on Friday. It was about a four-hour ride. Oh my goodness, the place we stayed in was beautiful!! We all walked inside on Friday night and were blown away. We were all expecting a small cottage: it was a loft that is also used as a spa! We each had a bed and bathrobe and felt luxurious.

Friday we started to walk to dinner, trying to find a nearby restaurant, when it started pouring. We ran into the closest restaurant we could find, which had live music and was great. It was still raining like crazy when we were ready to leave. One of the girls informed us that apparently Costa Rica has one of the highest rates of people being hit by lightning - great, one of my worst fears! None of us had umbrellas and we weren't able to catch a taxi, so we decided to run for it. I and a couple others held our flip-flops in our hands, running barefoot through the downpour so we wouldn't slip. Every time there was a lightning strike we would shriek and duck (as though that would help!) but we were also laughing too. I bet we were the funniest sight!

Saturday it rained all day, but was still so much fun. We hung out at the loft and got to see a group of monkeys that came and played on the porch!

I ran outside to get pictures. The other girls scrambled to close the cantankerous back door so no monkeys would get inside! That meant I was locked outside with the monkeys, wait a minute ...

I got some good close-ups.

Also, some weird-looking, kind of creepy, photos of monkeys sitting on the roof.

Yes, some of the girls fed them bananas.

In the afternoon we walked to the beach when it was only lightly drizzling. The beach was messy from rain but nearly deserted.

That night we went to dinner at El Avion: a restaurant featuring an old crashed plane.

Sunday was bright and hot and we spent over four hours at the private beach in the National Park. Paradise. I got pretty sunburned but it was worth it.

A very good weekend.
